A methadone clinic is a facility where doctors use medication-assisted treatment to help addicts in overcoming their drug dependency. Medication used can include methadone, suboxone, and naltrexone.
Medication-assisted treatment makes breaking the cycle of opioid abuse and/or addiction easier. With advances in science, this process has become a lot safer, less painful, and more effective.
Brand New Start Treatment Centers provides effective and affordable methadone treatment in a safe space for patients with non-judgemental and caring counselors who are private and respectful.
What’s the history of methadone?
Methadone was first approved by the FDA for pain treatment in 1947. And since the early 1970s that medical professionals started using methadone primarily for the treatment of opiate addiction.
Today, Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) is recognized as a key component of a comprehensive opioid addiction treatment program. Furthermore, there is solid evidence of MMT’s overall effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Is methadone good for opiate withdrawal?
Methadone helps addicts restore their lives by alleviating the pain of withdrawal, restoring functionality to patients, and helping them remain abstinent. Methadone treatment is also an effective heroin craving suppressant that can reduce or eliminate cravings for opioids.
What does a methadone treatment program look like?
Methadone treatment is typically a daily attendance program that takes place at Methadone Clinic. Methadone doses are dispensed each time the patient comes to the clinic for medication management and counseling services provided by medical staff who help patients cope with their addiction, resolve other life issues, and prepare for eventual release from MMT.
Most people on methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) require daily doses and are closely watched for the first seven to ten days. Most patients are then able to visit their methadone clinic on a daily basis for at least six months to receive their daily dosage after this initial stage.
MMT has been found to have beneficial life changes, including a drop in criminal activities and the spread of disease, after one year or more of usage.
What are the side effects of methadone?
Research has shown that there are no serious side effects associated with the medically supervised use of methadone. There have been minor side effects reported, including constipation, water retention, drowsiness, skin rash, excessive sweating, and changes in libido. However, in the majority of cases, these symptoms subside once the individual finds the proper dosage for their individual needs.
How many people successfully detox from methadone?
Decades of scientific research have demonstrated methadone’s effectiveness. For example, a 1994 study found that rates of illegal drug use, criminal activity, and hospitalization were lower for MMT patients than for addicts in any other type of drug treatment program.
Methadone treatment is the most effective way of treating opioid addiction, but just like with any medication or therapy, it does not work for everyone – you should always speak with your doctor if you are considering methadone as an option.
